James is a Marine veteran and researcher who founded DeBacco Nexus after losing a long manuscript to an unguided AI system. This loss sparked a mission to hold AI accountable.

He developed the Inference Governance Module and DeBacco Rule to enforce clear safety limits, ensuring AI uses less energy and remains predictable.

Founder’s Legacy: Giving AI a Brake

James DeBacco’s journey is rooted in high-stakes human systems. As a Marine veteran, social worker, and USC doctoral candidate, he spent years protecting people in complex environments where the margin for error is zero.

The catalyst for DeBacco Nexus was a moment of profound failure: James lost a 70,000-word manuscript to an unguided AI system. This loss sparked a critical question: how can we hold AI accountable when it operates without oversight? It became clear that AI needed a way to stay within safe boundaries.

In response, James created the Inference Governance Module (IGM) to act as a technical governor. Alongside the DeBacco Rule, this system ensures AI uses less energy and stays within clear, predictable safety limits by requiring a physical brake for any AI managing critical resources.
